Automatic Provisioning with DHCP Options

Concept

SIP devices can be provisioned remotely using the Option9 Provisioning Server. Once the device is created and assigned to a User in the portal, a provisioning profile is automatically created in the Option9 Provisioning Server. The provisioning profile contains the User's SIP Username and Password, and other default settings that will allow the the User to interact with the PBX system. In order to access the provisioning profile, the SIP device must first be configured to retrieve the provisioning profile.

** If a phone is being migrated from another system or is not behaving as expected, it is a good idea to restore it to the factory default state before provisioning with the Option9 Provisioning Server. **

Network/DHCP Based Provisioning

With DHCP Options enabled the DHCP Server (router/firewall) for a network provides the configuration file path for the device. The device then connects to the specified URL for provisioning and configuration information. If the device has been added into the Option9 Portal, then our Provisioning Server will respond with all configuration information needed for the handset to come online.

Polycom
If it is possible to access the customer's LAN, the address of the Option9 Provisioning Server can be configured using DHCP Option 160. This DHCP Option 160 string should point to the following URL: http://ndp1-cos.option9.net/cfg/

** Note: Option 66 may work, but it has been deprecated as it conflicts with other devices -- we strongly recommend using the vendor-specific Option 160.

Yealink / Grandstream
If it is possible to access the customer's LAN, the address of the Option9 Provisioning Server can be configured using DHCP Option 43. The DHCP Option 43 string should point to the following URL: http://ndp1-cos.option9.net/cfg/

Linksys ATA or router(SPA112, SPA122, PAP2T, SPA2102,etc)
Linksys devices rely on DHCP Option 66, and have a special URL for their configuration. Your DHCP Option 66 should be set to type "string", and the value should be: http://ndp1-cos.option9.net/cfg/spa$MA.cfg
