A Service record (SRV record) is a specification of data in the Domain Name System defining the location, i.e. the hostname and port number, of servers for specified services.
Example:
Connecting to list.test.com would direct you to list.test.com:23481
Components
- Service - The name of the service you are connecting to
- Protocol - The name of the protocol you are connecting with
- Name - Name of the subdomain you are using (if you are using one)
- Weight - A relative weight for records with the same priority.
- Port - The TCP or UDP port on which the service is to be found.
- Target - The canonical hostname of the machine providing the service, ending in a dot.
- Priority - The priority of the target host, lower value means more preferred.
- TTL - standard DNS time to live field.
